The proud history of Rockingham Forest Wheelers entered an exciting new era with the beginning of the Corby Rockets.

The Rockets are a fully affiliated part of Rockingham Forest Wheelers aimed at the under 16s. We aim to give the children a sound grounding in cycle racing skills based around British Cycling's Go-Ride initiative. These are challenging but fun activities run by level two qualified coaches. One attraction of Go-Ride is that there is no necessity to spend a great deal of money on expensive equipment - a standard mountain bike is ideal provided it is in good mechanical condition.

One of our coaches Mark McVitty, is also undergoing the Cyclist Touring Club's internationally recognised Bikeability Instructor training, which will allow us to also offer the modern equivalent of the old Cycling Proficiency qualifications, hopefully from early 2008.

After attending five sessions your child will automatically become a member of the Corby Rockets (and so also Rockingham Forest Wheelers) for free.

The hope of the coaches and volunteers involved is to encourage more young people (and their parents too!) to get involved with one of the most exciting and healthy sports available, in a safe and protective environment.

Future plans include fun competitions against neighbouring Go-Ride clubs in Kettering and Market Harborough, and guided rides starting from the Rockingham Forest Clubrooms in Middleton near Corby for the more experienced children (again parents will be welcome to participate!).

Rockingham Forest Wheelers has a long standing twinning arrangement with cycling clubs in Corby's twin towns of Velbert in Germany and Chattelerault in France. It is hoped that through this association will be able to offer the youngsters the opportunity to travel and race abroad in the future.
